Times Qualified: 1 (2006)

Top Current Political Issue: Togo is currently negotiating with the European Union on a call for new elections. As one of the poorest nations in the world, the EU is hoping $70 million is enough to offer the government to fix its human rights problems.

Other Facts: Togo was the first sub-Saharan nation to experience a military coup. Over half of the nation practices animism.

The Team: This is Togo's first World Cup finals. Togo's foreign based players play all over Europe with Belgium, France and Switzerland the most popular places. Souleymane Mamam currently holds the record for youngest player ever to play a full international at 13 years 310 days.

Players to Watch: Togo has a very limited pool of talent with only Mamam (Manchester United on loan at Royal Antwerp) and Emmanuel Adebayor (Arsenal) as the only players of note.

Chances: Togo are in a difficult group containing France, Switzerland and South Korea. It is very difficult seeing them even getting a point out of their three group games.

Prediction: 4th place in their group and battling to avoid the wooden spoon.
