This Week In Europe

Posted in Champions League, UEFA Cup at 11:14 pm by deadlymusings

Various leagues around Europe have begun play in the last couple of weeks, but over the next few weeks the big leagues begin in Spain, Italy and of course England. In the meantime there are still qualifiers going on for the first round proper of the UEFA Cup and the group stage of the Champions League.

Milos Bajalica headed OFK Belgrade to a 1-0 victory in their first leg match against Auxerre, while Omonia Nicosia and Litex Lovech battled to a 0-0 stalemate in Cyprus in UEFA Cup action.

In today’s two Champions League affairs, Austria Vienna battled to a draw with former champions Benfica. Nuno Gomes’ away goal is unlikely to make much of a difference in Portugal. Finally, last season’s losing finalists Arsenal turned the screws on Dinamo Zagreb with Cesc Fabregas bagging a brace in a three goal second half.

And congratulations to Huddersfield winger Gary Taylor-Fletcher who scored the 500,000th goal in the history of the Football League.
