UEFA Cup Recap and First Round Draw

The 2nd legs of the 2nd Qualifying Round of the UEFA Cup took place last night with a few surprises. Estonian side Levadia Tallinn advanced against Dutch side Twente Enschede. FC Basle needed away goals to beat Liechtenstein Cup winners Vaduz who play in the league below them.

Irish side Drogheda United nearly beat IK Start from Norway, but lost 12-11 in the penalty shootout. Derry City completed their unexpected thrashing of Scottish First Division side Gretna with a 2-2 draw. Newcastle United could not break through Latvian side Ventspils at St. James’, but still advanced on their 1-0 win in the first leg.
