UEFA Cup Round 1 Second Leg Matches of Interest
With 40 matches tomorrow, it is difficult to preview all of them. However, many of the ties are already effectively over as contests leaving a much smaller selection to choose from, thankfully.
So I present to you my selection of five interesting matches tomorrow, and hopefully they do indeed entertain.
Odense BK v. Hertha Berlin – The first match between these two ended in a 2-2 draw at the Olimpiastadion. Odense are competitive in the SAS-Ligaen and sit fourth after their draw with Brondby. Hertha are coming off a 1-1 draw to Mainz and while unbeaten in the Bundesliga still sit third in the table.
Prediction: Odense 1-2 Hertha
Rangers v. Molde – Both of the sides are playing inconsistently at the moment, but Molde’s 2-0 win over Lillestrom may give them momentum as they look to avoid the drop again. Rangers lost the Old Firm derby 2-0 and looked terrible in the process. However, the crowd at Ibrox should give them the edge to win this match outright.
Prediction: Rangers 2-1 Molde
Red Star v. Slovan Liberec – The Czech side took the first leg 2-0, but they face a battle to retain that advantage when they travel to Belgrade. Red Star are coming off a scoreless draw in their derby with Partizan on the weekend, while Liberec drew against Jablonec. I think Red Star take the match, but Liberec take it on away goals.
Prediction: Red Star 3-1 Liberec
Litex Lovech v. Maccabi Haifa – The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Nijmegen, and the Bulgarian side would be expected to get a result here. However, their league form indicates that Maccabi should be able to get a goal, and from there it could get interesting.
Prediction: Litex 1-1 Maccabi Haifa
Paris St. Germain v. Derry City – This mismatch on paper did not play out that way in the first leg in Northern Ireland as no goals were scored on the night. PSG are playing terribly at the moment after a goalless draw at Nancy on the weekend put them 13th in the Ligue 1 table. The Candystripes of Derry City are coming off a 2-2 draw with top of the table Shelbourne which kept the gap at seven points, but they have three games in hand because of their UEFA Cup fixtures. Derry only need a score draw to take the tie on away goals, and what the heck I think they can do it.
Prediction: PSG 1-1 Derry
